My Husband Lied About Going to Work for Five Days—When I Followed Him, the Person Walking Out Beside Him Changed Everything.

I had believed that whatever happened in our lives, we would face it together.

Now I wasn’t sure whether my husband had ever intended to let me face this particular problem at all.

I drove home.

I needed time to think.

That evening, Eliam arrived at his usual time.

He kissed me, changed out of his work clothes, and asked what we were having for dinner.

I watched him from the kitchen.

“Chicken,” I answered.

“Perfect. I’m starving.”

He sat at the table and began scrolling through his phone.

I placed his plate in front of him.

Then I sat across from him.

“Do you remember Vanessa’s birthday last year?”

He looked up.

“Of course.”

“She said she wanted to change jobs.”

“Right.”

“She told me she was tired of her manager.”

Eliam nodded and returned to his phone.

“What’s this about?”

“Nothing. I was just thinking about her.”

He put his phone down.

“Is everything okay with Vanessa?”
