The picture had been taken several weeks earlier.
Another showed us sitting together at a café.
A third showed us kissing outside the bookstore.
I felt my stomach drop.
“Where did these come from?”
“Dad’s attorney sent them to me.”
I looked up.
“Why?”
Daniel pushed the papers away.
“Because apparently, my father thinks our relationship is a threat to the family.”
I sat down opposite him.
“Daniel, I’m sorry.”
He rubbed his forehead.
“Don’t. Just tell me the truth. How long have you two been together?”
“Officially? A few weeks.”
“And before that?”
I took a breath.
“We had feelings for each other for months. We didn’t act on them because we knew how complicated things were.”
He nodded slowly.
“Did you sleep with her before the divorce?”
“No.”
“Did she cheat on Dad with you?”
“No. We didn’t start a relationship while they were married.”
Daniel looked at the photographs again.
For a moment, I thought he was going to explode.
