I lost my sight at eight years old… and then I discovered my husband's secret
I lost my sight at the age of eight, after a childhood friend pushed me off a swing set. My head hit a rock, damaging my optic nerves. Despite several surgeries, doctors were unable to restore my vision.
I learned Braille, adapted to living in darkness, and eventually graduated with honors. Even so, I never stopped dreaming of seeing again.
At 24, I met Nigel, an ophthalmologist whose voice sounded strangely familiar. He denied knowing me, but we soon became very close. Eventually, we fell in love, got married, and had two children: Ethan and Rose.
For years, Nigel worked late, telling me he was close to a breakthrough. I assumed he was helping other patients.
Then, after twenty years of blindness, he told me that he had developed a procedure that could restore my sight.
I trusted him and agreed to undergo the risky surgery.
