I typed the sequence—Alpha‑9‑Delta—watching the autopilot disengage with a soft, final beep.

The yacht shuddered, the engines coughing as they stalled, leaving us dead in the water, the hull groaning under the weight of the swelling sea.

“Now it’s just you and me,” I whispered, breath ragged, feeling the wet spray sting my cheeks.

Lightning illuminated the deck, casting fleeting shadows of the two of us—one desperate, one terrified.
